Honor has updated the developer documentation for its AI FreeGrip feature, which currently functions only on standard smartphones in portrait orientation. The company plans to extend this capability to include foldable devices and other non-standard screen form factors in the future.

The AI FreeGrip technology provides third-party applications with low-latency grip recognition. This allows developers to adjust interface elements dynamically based on how a user holds the device. For instance, in single-handed use, buttons and tabs shift toward the grip side to improve thumb reach, while two-handed use triggers a symmetrical layout.

The feature is already available on several Honor models, including the Magic8 RSR Porsche Design, Magic8 series, Magic7 series, and Magic6 series, following the MagicOS 11 update. Support for the Magic8 Pro Air and Magic5 series is scheduled for mid-November.

Industry reports suggest that Honor is developing both new flat-screen and foldable devices. Speculation indicates that a future Honor foldable smartphone may feature a 2nm Snapdragon processor, with a potential market release in the first quarter of 2027.
