Lam Chun-yin, a 32-year-old former customer relationship manager at China Construction Bank (Asia), received a four-year prison sentence. The District Court of Hong Kong convicted him for falsely authenticating letters of credit totaling over $1.6 billion.

The court also ordered Lam to pay restitution exceeding $470,000. This amount represents the total value of bribes he accepted in the form of cryptocurrency. The defendant had previously entered a guilty plea regarding these charges.

Judge Ernest Lin Kam-hung emphasized the necessity of deterrent sentencing for this offense. He noted the severe impact of the fraud on society and the potential damage to Hong Kong's reputation as a global financial hub.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in Hong Kong is continuing its investigation into the matter. The agency has already obtained arrest warrants for other individuals suspected of involvement in the scheme.
