Honda has officially unveiled a prototype of its new electric mountain bike at the Sea Otter Europe event in Girona, Spain. This project marks the company's return to the mountain bike sector after a two-decade hiatus, following its previous development of the RN01 downhill bike in the early 2000s.
The prototype features a carbon monocoque frame developed in collaboration with the German manufacturer Rotwild and its ADP Engineering division. The design incorporates a rear swingarm dubbed the Gullarm, a Fox 36 fork, and a mullet wheel configuration with a 29-inch front and 27.5-inch rear wheel.
The bike is equipped with a Shimano EP8-series mid-drive motor, though observers noted that the motor casing appears distinct from the current EP801 model. Honda has not yet disclosed technical specifications such as battery capacity, final weight, or the official production name.
The company has launched a registration page on its German website for interested riders, signaling plans to bring the product to market. Honda has not announced pricing, specific launch markets, or a release date for the new electric mountain bike.
