Honda, in collaboration with Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec Corporation, will begin testing a wireless power transfer road system in the next fiscal year, starting April 1. The project utilizes electromagnetic induction to charge electric vehicles while they are in motion.

Honda is responsible for developing the vehicle-mounted receiving unit, which converts electromagnetic waves into high-power direct current. Taisei manages the installation of the transmitting coils within the road surface and the necessary engineering infrastructure.

The testing will take place on a 55.7 km stretch of public highway in Japan. The infrastructure includes transmitting coils, cabling, and power transformers. The system is designed to support both passenger electric vehicles and electric trucks weighing up to 20 tons.

The project aims to achieve a wireless power transfer capacity of up to 150 kW for heavy-duty electric trucks. The durability of the road-embedded system will be tested against one million wheel passes with a load of 49 kN to ensure long-term reliability and efficiency.
