Honda is currently in negotiations with Ohio officials regarding state subsidies for a potential new manufacturing facility. The company plans to invest up to $2.5 billion in the project, which aims to focus on the production of large hybrid SUVs for the North American market.
The proposed factory is expected to have an annual production capacity of 250 000 vehicles. If the project proceeds, construction could commence next year, with the facility potentially becoming operational by 2030. The site is intended to be located near Honda's existing operations in Ohio.
The plant may produce next-generation Acura MDX models and a rumored flagship three-row SUV, currently referred to as the Acura XL. Additionally, the facility could manufacture a larger version of the Honda Pilot, tentatively called the Pilot XXL, with production for that model potentially starting in early 2032.
North America remains Honda's primary market, accounting for approximately 40 percent of its global sales. The company anticipates a 6 percent increase in local sales for the fiscal year ending in March 2027. Honda has officially stated that reports regarding the new plant remain speculative.
