Honda has partnered with Taisei Construction and Taisei Road Technology to develop a wireless charging system for electric vehicles that operates while the car is in motion. The technology utilizes magnetic coupling, with charging modules installed beneath the road surface to transfer energy directly to the vehicle.

The companies have divided their responsibilities: Honda is focused on developing high-performance power transceivers compatible with direct current, while its partners manage the power infrastructure and the installation of underground equipment. The system is intended for both passenger electric vehicles and heavy commercial trucks.

Testing is currently underway at a specialized facility to evaluate the durability of the embedded charging modules, with results expected by the end of 2026. Future development phases will include testing power transmission at levels up to 150 kW for commercial vehicles and simulating high-speed driving conditions.

The project team plans to transition to public road trials following April 2027. Ongoing research efforts are also focused on refining electromagnetic shielding for the road infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operation of the dynamic charging system.
