Honda is advancing its efforts in wireless electric vehicle charging technology through a collaboration with Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec Corporation. The partnership focuses on a magnetic coupling wireless power transfer system designed to charge vehicles while they are in motion.
The technical framework integrates Honda's high-power-density receiver and transmitter units, Taisei's high-response DC power supply, and Taisei Rotec's road-embedding equipment. The system aims to support various mobility products, ranging from passenger cars to heavy commercial vehicles.
The project is currently in the validation testing phase. The partners have scheduled an initial demonstration of the system on public roads to begin on April 1, 2027. The primary focus of this demonstration is on logistics and large commercial transport applications.
This development aligns with Honda's broader electrification strategy. While the company plans to discontinue the Prologue EV in North America by 2027, it is investing in battery technology through its Xcelerator Ventures branch and plans to introduce 15 hybrid models in the North American market over the next three years.
