Honda is collaborating with Taisei and Taisei Rotec to develop a Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer system that charges vehicle batteries while in motion. The technology utilizes coils embedded in the road surface to generate a magnetic field, which is captured by a receiving unit installed on the vehicle.
The partners plan to construct a test track at the T-FIELD/TAMRA facility by the end of 2026. This site will be used to verify the performance and safety of the energy transfer system. The companies intend to test power output levels reaching up to 150 kW, specifically targeting large commercial vehicles and high-speed driving scenarios.
Demonstrations are scheduled to commence in the Japanese fiscal year 2027, starting from 1 April 2027. The project will include participation in the Tateyama Project, a public road demonstration organized by East Nippon Expressway Company Limited on the Tateyama Expressway in Chiba, Japan.
Honda is responsible for developing the transmitting and receiving units compatible with DC distribution networks. Taisei is focused on the DC energy supply system for road electrification, while Taisei Rotec manages the construction methods required to integrate the charging coils into the road infrastructure.
