Home Assistant is rebranding its cloud service to Home Assistant Link. Founder Paulus Schoutsen stated the change reflects a strategy to distance the platform from cloud-dependent ecosystems, which he argues have negatively impacted the smart home industry.

The rebranding is primarily symbolic, as the service retains its existing features, including remote access, voice control integration, and encrypted backups. The subscription remains priced at $6.50 per month, with 60 percent of profits supporting the non-profit Open Home Foundation.

To reach a mainstream audience, the team plans to launch a more user-friendly hub next year. Development efforts are currently focused on simplifying dashboards, improving setup processes, and integrating generative AI to reduce system complexity.

The platform currently operates in approximately 2.7 million homes. Future updates include the integration of the HACS community store next month and the launch of the No Device Left Behind program to incorporate legacy hardware via serial, IR, and Modbus connections.
