HIVE Digital Technologies, acting through its subsidiary BUZZ HPC, has joined 22 other organizations in signing the Responsible Data Centre Development Principles. This voluntary framework was introduced by the Canadian government on September 3, 2026, in Markham, Ontario. Other signatories include major tech companies such as Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and OpenAI.

The framework outlines five non-binding expectations for data center operators. These include creating local community benefits, ensuring electricity costs are not shifted to consumers, minimizing water and ecological impacts, maintaining transparency regarding facility effects, and delivering outcomes that are strategically beneficial for Canada.

HIVE is currently developing an AI-focused data center in the Greater Toronto Area with a capacity of 320 MW. The project is valued at CAD 3,5 billion and is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2027. The facility aims to house more than 100 000 GPUs and will utilize closed-loop cooling systems designed for zero water usage.
