Users are encountering deceptive insurance pop-ups when scanning QR codes at public charging stations. According to a report from CCTV, individuals are prompted to enter personal data, including bank card details and phone numbers, under the guise of necessary verification for charging services.

One consumer in Nyingchi, Tibet, reported an unauthorized deduction from his bank account after providing his information. The pop-up windows lack standard advertising features, such as countdown timers or close buttons, and fail to disclose that the user is signing up for an insurance policy.

These fraudulent practices extend beyond charging stations. Similar traps have been identified in various consumer scenarios, including the use of parcel lockers, shared power banks, and automated parking payment systems, where users are misled into purchasing insurance products.
