HEVO, a New York-based supplier of wireless charging solutions, has entered a collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and BMW. The partners aim to evaluate next-generation wireless charging technologies for future electric mobility platforms.
As part of the program, HEVO will provide engineering support and expertise in circular coil topologies. The company will assist BMW with bench testing to assess how these designs integrate with ORNL’s proprietary polyphase coil technology.
The project focuses on the potential of polyphase wireless charging to enhance power density, system efficiency, and overall packaging. This initiative builds on previous research by ORNL and BMW regarding advanced charging architectures.
HEVO CEO Jeremy McCool noted that the company is an ORNL technology licensee. The firm intends to leverage its experience from commercial deployments to help evaluate systems that could support future electric and autonomous vehicle ecosystems.
