The Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas has launched a new IT laboratory dedicated to training specialists for the oil and gas sector. The facility is equipped with the Russian software platform R7-Office, provided by the developer R7 to facilitate collaborative work and academic studies.

Students will utilize the laboratory to master office software and collaborative tools in an environment designed to mirror real-world industrial conditions. The space will host regular academic courses, masterclasses, and sessions led by experts from the R7 company.

R7 CEO Evgeny Shelkovnikov stated that the initiative aims to ensure students gain practical experience with domestic technologies currently deployed by major national oil and gas corporations. This partnership is intended to prepare students for professional demands by integrating software usage into their daily curriculum.

Rector Viktor Martynov announced that the university has introduced three new academic programs this year focusing on AI technologies for field development, automated systems for the energy sector, and oil refining innovations. Additionally, the university is collaborating with Gazprom Neft to build a library of digital models and AI-driven production tools.

Gubkin University currently maintains partnerships with nearly 300 major Russian oil and gas enterprises, including Gazprom, Rosneft, Transneft, Novatek, and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium-R. These collaborations focus on workforce training, scientific research, and the execution of engineering projects.
