Greenairy, a startup founded by Tanvi Thombre and Lakshya Saraf, has developed smart plant towers designed to remove toxic gases from indoor environments. The system uses plants and microbes to break down volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon dioxide, which are often missed by standard air purifiers.
Internal testing conducted by the company in Singapore compared the plant towers against medical-grade ionizers and HEPA purifiers. According to the founders, the Greenairy towers achieved the lowest VOC levels and demonstrated a 50% reduction in both daily average and peak VOC concentrations during office hours.
The startup's performance data has been validated by the German certification firm TÜV SÜD. Greenairy plans to commence large-scale manufacturing following the final certification of these results.
Currently, the founders are operating from Berkeley, California, and Singapore to manage fundraising and product testing respectively. The company expects to launch mass-produced units and begin installations for its first customers in Singapore by the first half of 2027.
