The Federal Reserve implemented its first interest rate hike since 2023 on Wednesday. Following the announcement, the price of bitcoin experienced short-term volatility before stabilizing, showing a 1% increase over a 24-hour period.

Grayscale's research team, led by Zach Pandl, characterized the move as a mid-cycle adjustment rather than a cyclical shift. The firm anticipates that the one or two rate hikes projected for 2026 will have a minimal impact on capital allocation strategies.

Pandl noted that while previous rate hikes in 2022 negatively affected bitcoin prices by increasing the opportunity cost of non-interest-bearing assets, the current economic environment resembles 1997. During that period, a single rate hike did not prevent the Nasdaq from rising.

Bitcoin recently traded at approximately $76 581, marking an 18% increase over the last 30 days. The asset previously gained momentum in August following reports that the U.S. Treasury planned to at least double its liquidity-support buyback operations.
