Grab, a Singapore-based ride-hailing and delivery company, plans to increase its autonomous vehicle fleet in Singapore from 10 to 50 units. The company intends to add 40 new vehicles by March 2027. These additions will allow the expansion of the Ai.R shuttle service beyond the Punggol district, pending regulatory approval.
The company is considering using WeRide GXR models for the expansion, following a strategic investment in the Chinese firm in August 2025 and the deployment of 10 such units in April 2026. Grab has not yet confirmed technical details for the new vehicles. The existing fleet has covered over 110,000 kilometres and served more than 12,000 riders.
Currently, the Ai.R service operates on three routes in Punggol, with journey times ranging from 20 to 50 minutes. A waitlist for the service currently includes over 1,000 people. To support operations, 30 driver-partners have received safety operator certification, including six who work as remote operators.
Looking ahead, Grab aims to deploy thousands of autonomous vehicles across Southeast Asia by 2030. According to President and COO Alex Hungate, the company plans to continue refining its service by utilizing community feedback and data from its core ride-hailing operations.
