The project was developed by CozyBlaze, who shared the inner workings of the Portal Agent on GitHub. The model interacted with the game using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and a modified SourcePauseTool. This setup allowed the game to remain paused while the AI processed screenshots and character position data before executing a sequence of inputs.

The total duration of the GPT-6 Astra VOD streams reached approximately 24 hours, although an edited highlights reel was reduced to about 2 hours. The developer noted that while this achievement is a glimpse of OpenAI's 2016 vision of a single agent solving various games, it should not be viewed as a formal AI benchmark.

GPT-6 Astra was designated as OpenAI's flagship model earlier this month. According to the company, the model represents a new generation of intelligence and provides state-of-the-art performance in software engineering, cybersecurity, science, professional work, computer use, and browsing.
