Google has integrated physical navigation keys into the keyboards of its Googlebook devices. The F1, F2, and F3 keys now feature the classic triangle, circle, and square icons originally introduced with Android 5.0 Lollipop in 2014.
The functionality of these keys mirrors their original mobile purpose. The triangle key acts as a back button, the circle minimizes all open applications, and the square key triggers an app switcher view similar to Task View on Windows or Mission Control on macOS.
These navigation controls provide a fallback for Android applications that lack full optimization for desktop interfaces or mouse input. While the Quick Insert and Google logo keys were previously seen on earlier Chromebook models, the navigation button layout is a new implementation for the Googlebook hardware line.
