The first Googlebook laptops have officially launched in the US market. These devices are produced by manufacturers including Acer, Asus, Lenovo, HP, and Dell, and they run on the Googlebook OS, which integrates Android software with ChromeOS desktop features.
Google has published an official guide for unlocking the Bootloader on these devices. Users can enable OEM unlocking through the developer options menu after tapping the build number seven times in the device settings. The final unlocking step is performed within the recovery mode menu.
The company warns that unlocking the bootloader will wipe all user data and disable security protections. Google notes that this process may lead to hardware or software security risks and could result in the manufacturer refusing warranty service for the device.
Following the release of the guide, John Wu, the developer of the Android root tool Magisk, confirmed that Magisk will support Googlebook devices. Further details regarding the implementation are expected to be announced in the coming days.
