Google has transitioned to a two-week release cycle for Chrome updates, starting with the launch of Chrome 153 on Desktop, Android, and iOS. The next stable release, Chrome 154, is scheduled for September 22.
The company is also piloting a shift to two security releases per week. This move is designed to combat 'N-day' attacks, where hackers reverse engineer bugs from public codebases to exploit users before a patch is delivered.
The new schedule builds on previous cycles: a predictable cadence began in 2010, and a four-week cycle was implemented in uma 2021. Google states that Microsoft, Mozilla, and Brave are also adopting similar standards for browser delivery.
The shift to shorter cycles is driven by the need to address the 보안 security threats posed by 보안 security tools powered by AI. This approach minimizes disruption and simplifies post-release debugging by delivering updates with a smaller scope.
