Google has officially confirmed that support for ChromeOS will conclude in mid-2034. The company announced that many recent Chromebook models will be eligible to migrate to the new Googlebook OS, although a specific list of compatible devices and the migration process remain undisclosed.

The support lifecycle for Googlebook OS will follow a 10-year model, similar to ChromeOS, with the countdown beginning from the release date of the device's processor. Management tools for the new operating system are scheduled to be released in the second half of 2027.

Transitioning to Googlebook OS will require new licenses for corporate and educational clients, distinct from existing Chrome Education and Enterprise agreements. Google has not yet detailed the specific terms or pricing for these new licensing requirements.

While Googlebook OS shares more architectural similarities with Android than ChromeOS, Google maintains that it will continue to support web applications and provide APIs for web developers. Pre-orders for the first Googlebook devices are open, with retail availability starting October 4.
