Google launched its first Pixel smartphone on October 4, 2016, shifting from the developer-focused Nexus line to the consumer market. Over the past decade, the product family has expanded to include various form factors, including foldable devices, tablets, and smartwatches.
The hardware evolution included the introduction of Google's proprietary Tensor processors, starting with the Pixel 6 series. Subsequent generations introduced features like the Pixel Visual Core, Night Sight, gesture control, and satellite connectivity, alongside improvements in display brightness and battery capacity.
The latest Pixel 11 series, released in August 2026, features 3nm Tensor G6 processors and a new HiLight RGB indicator. Google has discontinued the 128GB storage configuration for this generation, and the retail price for the new models has increased by $100 compared to their predecessors.
The ecosystem has grown to include diverse hardware, such as the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet with a speaker dock. Software support has also evolved, with the Pixel 8 series introducing a seven-year operating system update policy.
