Google is introducing Notebooks to its Gemini AI application. This feature allows users to organize conversations, uploaded files, and research sources into structured project workspaces instead of using a chronological chat list.

The update includes bidirectional synchronization with NotebookLM. Sources and chats sync in real time, enabling users to access NotebookLM tools, such as Infographics and Audio Overviews, directly within Gemini without re-uploading materials.

The feature was tested in late 2025 under the name Projects before being rebranded as Notebooks. This move follows similar organizational tools released by OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude.

The official desktop experience remains a Progressive Web App rather than a native application. Google clarified that the third-party app GeminiDesktop is not an official product.

The initial rollout excludes users under 18, as well as those in Google Workspace environments and educational contexts. Higher source limits, such as 600 sources compared to 50, are available for subscribers of the Ultra tier.
