Google has introduced a new feature called Call for Me, which allows the Gemini AI to perform phone calls to businesses on behalf of users. The tool is currently available as an experiment for owners of Pixel 11 devices in the United States who maintain a Gemini subscription.
To use the feature, customers must install the beta version of the Google Phone app for Android. The AI is designed to handle tasks such as checking product availability, booking restaurant reservations, rescheduling appointments, or placing items on hold.
During the process, the AI navigates automated phone menus and waits on hold. Users can monitor the conversation in real time through a live transcript and have the option to take over the call at any moment. The system uses the user's personal phone number for all outgoing calls.
This initiative follows previous Google developments in automated calling, including the Ask for Me feature launched last year and earlier tools like Hold for Me and Direct My Call. The company stated that it is launching the feature on a small scale to account for the nuances of real-world conversations.
