Google is developing a new tool called Cast Trackpad, discovered within the Cross-Device Services system application version 1.0.1283.974003524. This feature allows users to utilize an Android smartphone as a wireless trackpad for Googlebook laptops, enabling remote control of the computer from a distance.
The tool supports multi-touch gestures for navigation and includes dedicated on-screen buttons for volume control and back navigation. Users can also adjust the trackpad sensitivity via a dedicated slider within the interface, providing customization for touch response speeds.
The functionality is designed for scenarios where a Googlebook is connected to external displays like projectors or televisions. By using a smartphone as a remote input device, users can manage applications and computer controls without needing to remain physically close to the laptop.
Beyond the trackpad feature, code analysis revealed a new setup interface for Cast My Apps, which enables streaming Android applications directly to the Googlebook desktop. Additionally, Google is working on a feature called Continue On to facilitate task handoff between devices.
