Google Cloud launched its Modernize portfolio on October 5, 2026, to assist enterprises in migrating legacy systems, including mainframes and VMware setups, to cloud-native environments. The suite integrates existing migration tools with new AI agents designed to automate assessment, code analysis, and migration tasks.

Key components include the Migration Center with the Gemini-powered Agentic Quick Estimator for infrastructure sizing, and the Modernization Hub for source code analysis. Additionally, the EKS-to-GKE Agentic Migration tool, which facilitates moving workloads from Amazon Web Services to Google Kubernetes Engine, is now in public preview.

To support demanding workloads, Google introduced new virtual machines, including the X5 series with up to 43 TiB of memory, alongside M4N, Z4D, and Z4M instances. These are optimized for high-performance systems like SAP S/4HANA and AI-driven tasks, incorporating human-in-the-loop approvals to manage project risks.

Early adopters reported significant operational improvements. NetEase Games reduced infrastructure scaling time from hours to five minutes and achieved 40% cost savings. Deutsche Börse Group reported a 50% reduction in aggregation latency, while Intesa Sanpaolo utilized the Dual Run capability for regulatory migrations.
