Google has announced plans to phase out ChromeOS by 2034. The company is introducing a successor platform called Googlebook OS, which will maintain the established 10-year support cycle for security patches and updates, calculated from the launch date of the device's CPU.

Enterprise and education IT administrators are being prepared for a transition to the new operating system. While Google confirmed that many recent Chromebook models will be eligible for migration, specific device lists and upgrade procedures remain undisclosed. The company plans to introduce management capabilities for Googlebook OS in the second half of 2027.

The transition will require new licensing agreements for Chrome Education and Enterprise users, though specific terms have not yet been released. Google noted that the new OS will feature architecture similar to Android while maintaining support for web applications and developer APIs.

Googlebooks are currently open for pre-orders, with an official product launch scheduled for October 4. The company stated its commitment to assisting organizations throughout the migration process, emphasizing that many existing devices will offer direct paths to the new software environment.
