Goldman Sachs projects a 38% increase in power demand for US data centers in both 2026 and 2027. This growth corresponds to an additional 12 GW of demand in 2026 and 17 GW in 2027.

The bank updated its capacity forecasts, expecting US data-center capacity to reach 64 GW by the end of 2026 and 90 GW by the end of 2027. Previous estimates from May 2026 anticipated a capacity of roughly 95 GW by the end of 2027.

Analysts argue that investments in AI infrastructure by major technology firms will likely overcome regulatory and political obstacles. While local opposition to data-center construction is rising, the bank concludes that it has had a limited impact on growth so far.

A June 2026 Reuters/Ipsos poll indicated that approximately 33% of Americans approve of the current pace of data-center construction, with only 14% supporting local builds for major hyperscalers.
