General Motors plans to equip the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon with the new L4B TurboMax engine. According to internal documentation, this powertrain delivers 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. These figures represent an increase of 40 horsepower and 25 lb-ft compared to the outgoing L3B engine, which produced 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft.

The L4B engine features several hardware updates, including a new turbocharger, redesigned pistons, revised fuel injection, and an updated thermal management system. Peak performance for the unit is reached at 5,200 rpm for horsepower and 3,000 rpm for torque. These specifications align the midsize trucks with the output of the full-size Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 models.

While official payload and towing ratings are pending, GM documentation suggests a maximum towing capacity of approximately 7,700 pounds for properly equipped vehicles. This figure remains consistent with the capabilities of the current generation. The company has not yet released a comprehensive consumer-facing specification sheet for the 2027 model year trucks.
