General Motors is reversing its previous strategy to abandon smartphone mirroring. The company announced that the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models will feature a new user interface with native support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The updated system allows users to run smartphone mirroring and the proprietary GM interface simultaneously. The UI displays the phone interface in a large window, eliminating the need to switch between different screens while operating the vehicle.

Beyond smartphone integration, the new interface includes high-contrast display hardware and mode-aware gauge clusters. These clusters adjust information based on the active drive mode, such as off-roading or the use of the Super Cruise driver assistance system.

The system also introduces 3D visualizations for Super Cruise, providing real-time data on traffic and lane markings. The redesigned home screen features a split-view layout, allowing users to manage vehicle settings while keeping navigation visible.

GM plans to scale this new architecture across its broader portfolio, covering electric, gas, and diesel-powered vehicles. This marks a significant shift from the company's 2023 announcement, when it declared plans to remove CarPlay and Android Auto support.
