General Motors is introducing a new software interface for its 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 models. The system features a combined screen area of over 60 inches, including the instrument cluster, central display, and passenger screen. The update aims to reduce driver distraction by using larger tap zones and simplified layouts for functions like trailering and off-roading.

The new interface supports picture-in-picture mode for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing these services to run in a contextual card alongside native vehicle functions. This design change enables users to access features like trailering information without switching away from phone projection. GM intends to use this approach to avoid forcing customers to choose between phone mirroring and the native system.

The software includes a swipe-down notification menu for quick access to settings, device switching, and privacy controls, such as microphone disabling. While most physical controls remain, some tools like the oil dipstick are now digital-only. The system uses animated transitions to maintain context when moving between different functions, preventing the media player from being fully replaced.

GM plans to roll out the interface later this year, targeting its high-volume trucks rather than lower-volume models. The company sells nearly 900 000 units of these trucks annually, which will provide significant user feedback for future over-the-air updates. The new software will be exclusive to new vehicles, and existing owners will not receive the update.
