GlobalFoundries plans to launch its new FDX Fusion platform in 2028, targeting performance levels comparable to 7nm-class digital logic. The company emphasizes that this development focuses on processing speed rather than physical transistor density or FinFET architecture.

The technology will be developed and manufactured at the company's facility in Dresden, Germany. This site is currently undergoing an expansion project named SPRINT, valued at approximately €1.1 billion, which aims to increase annual production capacity to over 1 million 300mm wafers by the end of 2028.

FDX Fusion is designed for physical AI applications, including robotics, industrial automation, and automotive electronics. The platform integrates digital logic, analog and radio-frequency components, and embedded non-volatile memory to improve energy efficiency and reduce system latency.

GlobalFoundries intends to provide demonstration samples to clients in early 2027, with design kits expected by mid-2027. The project's realization depends on approval from the German government under the IPCEI Advanced Semiconductor Technologies program.

Major industry players, including BMW, Bosch, Siemens, Infineon, NXP, and Tesla, have expressed interest in the platform. Infineon specifically noted plans to utilize FDX Fusion technology for radar and wireless communication applications.
