GlobalFoundries has announced plans to construct and operate two new semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Malta, New York. These plants will be situated near the company's existing manufacturing campus to bolster domestic chip production capabilities.
The expansion focuses on increasing the supply of mature nodes and specialized process technologies. These chips are essential for sectors including automotive, industrial control, aerospace, defense, and artificial intelligence, where demand for reliable semiconductor supply is rising.
This project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the resilience of the U.S. semiconductor supply chain. GlobalFoundries is currently coordinating with customers, government entities, and industry partners to ensure sufficient manufacturing capacity for the coming years.
GlobalFoundries specializes in radio frequency chips, power management, embedded memory, and automotive-grade components. Unlike competitors focused on the most advanced nodes, the company prioritizes these critical specialized processes for various industrial and consumer applications.
The initiative aligns with recent U.S. government efforts to incentivize domestic chip manufacturing through the CHIPS and Science Act. The new facilities are expected to create high-tech jobs and strengthen New York's position as a key semiconductor manufacturing hub.
