Global EV battery usage reached 725.2 GWh between January and July 2026, marking a 20.4% year-on-year increase. CATL maintained its leadership with 289.6 GWh installed, capturing a 39.9% market share. BYD followed in second place with 106.7 GWh, representing 14.7% of the market.
LG Energy Solution secured the third position with 60.3 GWh, while CALB and Gotion High-tech rounded out the top five with 37.3 GWh and 34.0 GWh respectively. Panasonic ranked sixth with 26.2 GWh, and Eve Energy took seventh place with 25.0 GWh. SK On experienced a 9.8% decline in installations to 22.3 GWh.
Rept Battero Energy entered the top 10 for the first time with 16.9 GWh, displacing Sunwoda. Seven Chinese companies now control 72.8% of the global market. Regional growth varied significantly, with Asian markets outside China expanding by 77.1% and South America by 192.6%, while North America saw a 20.2% decline.
The decline in North American battery installations is linked to a drop in the share of battery electric vehicles in US new-vehicle sales to approximately 6%. This shift followed the expiration of federal EV tax credits at the end of September 2025.
