GFiber, Qualcomm, and Gemtek have unveiled the new Wi-Fi 8 Premium Gateway. The device is built on the Qualcomm Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite Platform, which integrates a penta-core CPU and an NPU to enhance performance for connected devices.

The platform incorporates native edge AI, allowing for the deployment and scaling of agentic AI directly on the gateway. According to Qualcomm, this architecture combines high-performance networking with advanced connectivity features.

The gateway features a new aesthetic design intended to encourage users to place the device in central locations for better signal propagation. It is designed to support high-speed fiber services, including upcoming 50 Gig connections.

GFiber plans to launch residential trials for its 50 Gig service, based on 50G-PON technology, in the spring of next year. The new Wi-Fi 8 hardware will provide full support for these high-bandwidth connections.
