The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted design patents for the Genesis X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible in August 2026. The documents, registered as US D1,144,037 S and US D1,138,892 S, protect the ornamental design of the vehicles' bodies. Both models are classified under the USPC D12/92 category for heavyweight passenger automobiles.

Genesis submitted the US applications on July 29, 2025, citing priority from South Korean filings dated March 19, 2025. The convertible patent was issued on August 4, 2026, followed by the coupe on August 25, 2026. These patents cover only the exterior aesthetics and do not include specifications for powertrains or mechanical hardware.

While the patents do not guarantee mass production, industry reports suggest a potential price range between $120,000 and $160,000 for the models. Genesis executives have previously expressed interest in adding a grand tourer to the lineup, though the company has not yet announced a formal production timeline, manufacturing facility, or specific engine configurations.

The design filings follow previous corporate statements regarding the development of a two-door flagship vehicle. Although the bodywork features visible dual exhaust outlets, the patent documentation remains silent on whether the final versions will utilize combustion engines or hybrid systems.
