General Motors has decided to retain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support in its 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 models. Instead of allowing these platforms to occupy the entire infotainment display, the company is integrating them as card-based windows within its proprietary interface.

The 2027 Silverado 1500 features a 16.3-inch central touchscreen and a 12.2-inch driver information display, while the GMC Sierra is equipped with a 16.3-inch central touchscreen. These new displays allow users to view mobile navigation alongside native vehicle status information simultaneously.

This design shift aims to reduce the need for frequent screen switching. By placing smartphone interfaces within a larger card system, General Motors is prioritizing its own native software ecosystem while maintaining access to third-party mobile connectivity features.

While the company previously signaled plans to phase out mobile projection services, the 2027 model year strategy suggests a compromise. The automaker has not yet announced a specific timeline for the complete removal of CarPlay and Android Auto from its vehicle lineup.
