Venture capital firm General Catalyst is constructing a dedicated data center to provide its portfolio companies with access to AI servers and GPUs. This infrastructure project aims to address the hardware shortages currently hindering the development and training of AI models among startups.
The facility will feature shared compute pools, allowing portfolio companies to access resources without negotiating for capacity individually. A specific cluster is planned for startups with high token consumption, ensuring that businesses with intensive model usage receive necessary support.
In May 2026, the firm appointed Alexis Black Bjorlin, a former executive at Nvidia, as its Chief Strategy Officer. This initiative aligns with the firm's $1.5 billion Creation Strategy, which prioritizes investments in AI-native companies.
General Catalyst has not disclosed the location, total capacity, or construction costs of the data center. The firm also has yet to detail its internal policies regarding the pricing and allocation of compute resources among its portfolio companies.
