Gemini Digital Payments Singapore, the local entity of the exchange, has been granted a Major Payment Institution (MPI) license by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). This authorization allows the company to provide digital payment token services and cross-border money transfers without the transaction-volume limits that apply to standard payment institutions.
The full license follows an in-principle approval granted by MAS in October 2024. In April 2025, Gemini transitioned its Singaporean customers to a locally incorporated entity while awaiting final regulatory approval.
The exchange has operated in the Singapore market since 2020, offering spot crypto trading, digital asset custody, and over-the-counter services. CEO Tyler Winklevoss noted that the country serves as a strategic hub for the company's retail and institutional clients.
