London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), owned by Geely, plans to launch a new generation of its iconic black taxi in the second half of 2027. The current range-extended TX model, which has been in production for nearly a decade, will be phased out due to new regulatory requirements regarding seat strength, anchor points, and headrests.

In 2023, LEVC sold 725 units of the TX model, meeting its established sales target. The company is currently finalizing the assembly of the remaining units. The existing TX is manufactured at the Ansty facility near Coventry, which is one of the few sites authorized to produce vehicles meeting Transport for London standards.

LEVC is working with Geely to determine the development and production strategy for the next-generation vehicle. While the company aims to keep operations in Ansty, it has not ruled out moving production to Geely's factory in Yiwu, China. The future utilization of the UK plant remains uncertain as the company explores options for manufacturing other Geely group models.

Design sketches for the upcoming model indicate a shift toward a boxier, lower, and more robust silhouette, while retaining the signature rounded headlight features of the current generation. The project receives development support from Geely's Chinese operations, though specific investment details and final production timelines are still being finalized.
