Lausanne-based startup Fusionality has secured $3.7 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by Founderful and Playfair. The company currently employs a team of seven people.
Founded by Federico Felici and Jonas Buchli, both former Google DeepMind researchers, the startup aims to provide standardized control systems and simulation tools for fusion energy companies.
Fusionality focuses on magnetic confinement technology, which is currently being developed by firms such as Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Realta Fusion, Proxima Fusion, and Type One Energy.
The founders intend to use the capital to develop a modular suite of hardware and software components. These tools are designed to manage the complex plasma conditions required for fusion reactors.
While the company incorporates machine learning, Felici noted that AI is currently intended to optimize specific system functions rather than manage reactor operations entirely.
