The Chinese manufacturer FunnyPlaying has introduced the FPGB Mini, a handheld console designed to play original Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges. Unlike the Analogue Pocket, this device does not support Game Boy Advance or Sega Game Gear titles, focusing exclusively on the earlier generation of Nintendo hardware.
The device utilizes field-programmable gate array technology to emulate original hardware performance. It features a 2.98-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 800x720 pixels and an 1,800mAh rechargeable battery. Users can utilize a microSD slot for game saves, screenshots, and ROM storage, while a USB-C port enables multiplayer connectivity.
The FPGB Mini is significantly smaller than the Analogue Pocket, with a width only slightly larger than a standard game cartridge. Due to its compact form factor, the console cannot accommodate cartridges equipped with rumble motors or additional hardware components.
The initial batch of 20 units was offered at a discounted price of $69.99, down from the standard $89.99. While the first units sold out rapidly, FunnyPlaying is considering further production runs following potential hardware refinements.
