Developers have optimized FSR 4 performance on the ASRock BC-250 mining board, which utilizes AMD silicon similar to the PlayStation 5. By shifting optimizations into a FidelityFX DLL, the team reduced rendering times across multiple resolutions without compromising image quality.
Testing shows that at 1440p, upscaling time decreased from 11.51 ms to 5.92 ms. Performance at 4K improved from 25.72 ms to 12.08 ms, while 1080p processing dropped from 7.13 ms to 3.93 ms. The update replaces expensive instruction fallbacks with more efficient mathematical paths.
The BC-250 board features 24 RDNA 2 compute units and six Zen 2 CPU cores by default, though community tools can unlock up to 40 compute units and eight CPU cores. Despite these modifications, the hardware faces limitations, including a bottleneck from the older CPU and 16GB of shared GDDR6 memory.
The new FidelityFX DLL approach eliminates the need for a custom Mesa build, simplifying integration with OptiScaler or native implementations. While the board remains a popular project for Linux gaming enthusiasts, native Windows support and frame generation are not yet qualified.
