Republican French Hill has secured another term in Congress representing Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Chris Jones. Despite this victory, Hill is expected to lose his position as chair of the House Financial Services Committee as Democrats have taken control of the House of Representatives.
Hill is recognized for his support of the cryptocurrency industry, holding an A rating from the advocacy group Stand With Crypto. During his tenure, he sponsored the CLARITY Act and voted in favor of the GENIUS Act. His campaign received financial backing from Fairshake, a crypto-focused super PAC that pledged $1 million to support his reelection efforts in October.
Following the midterm election results, Maxine Waters is considered the primary candidate to succeed Hill as the committee chair. The shift in control of both chambers of Congress has introduced uncertainty regarding the future of cryptocurrency legislation in the United States, as crypto-backed super PACs invested over $176 million throughout the election cycle.
