The Freelander 8, a new EREV SUV from Chery Jaguar Land Rover, set a Guinness World Record by reaching an altitude of 6,002.33 meters in Tibet on August 22. This performance surpassed the previous record of 5,980.05 meters, established by the BYD Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 in July 2024.

The vehicle features a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder range extender and a dual-motor AWD system delivering 610 kW. The rear drive unit incorporates a two-speed reduction gearbox, which provides a 1.5-to-1 torque multiplication to assist with steep, low-speed climbs and thermal management in thin air.

Built on a unibody chassis, the SUV measures 5,118 mm in length with a 3,040 mm wheelbase and utilizes air suspension. The powertrain is supported by a 60.33 kWh CATL Freevoy NMC battery and an 800V electrical architecture. The model also includes the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system.

The Freelander 8 is manufactured at the Chery-JLR plant in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. The vehicle is currently available with launch pricing ranging from ¥289 900 to ¥379 900, which is approximately $41 000 to $53 700.
