Framework Computer has updated its 2-in-1 Framework Laptop 12, replacing the previous Intel Raptor Lake U processor with the new Intel Core 3 Wildcat Lake architecture. The company announced this option in August, and shipping of the updated units began in October.
The new lineup includes three processor variants: the Core 3 304 with 1P and 4 LPE cores, the Core 5 230 with 2P and 4 LPE cores, and the flagship Core 7 350. The top-tier Core 7 350 features 2 P cores, 4 LPE cores, and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.8GHz, with a base power rating of 15W and a maximum turbo power of 35W.
The updated laptop supports single-channel DDR5 or LPDDR5X memory. Framework provides DDR5-5600 DIMM options, with test configurations utilizing a single 32GB module. The device also features integrated Intel Graphics and supports the WD_BLACK SN770M 500GB SSD.
For software, Framework now offers a pre-load option featuring Fedora Linux with KDE Plasma. The company recommends using distributions with Linux kernel 7.1 or newer to ensure compatibility with the Intel BE213 WiFi module, noting that Fedora 44 is currently the preferred choice for the smoothest user experience.
