Federal prosecutors allege that Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old former OpenAI engineer, received significant support from the Saudi government. Court documents indicate that Alfozan maintained frequent contact with an unnamed member of the Saudi royal family.

Following his arrest, a Saudi military official purchased one-way tickets to Saudi Arabia for the defendant's wife and young children. Prosecutors disclosed these details in a detention memorandum, arguing that Alfozan poses a flight risk.

The defendant is accused of installing covert recording devices in an OpenAI executive conference room. Authorities claim he customized encrypted hardware to capture sensitive discussions involving high-level executives, business partners, and government officials.

Alfozan, a Saudi citizen and legal permanent resident of the United States, was scheduled to appear in a San Francisco federal court. Prosecutors are currently requesting that he remain in custody pending trial.
