Former FTX COO Constance Wang has publicly criticized the upcoming Netflix series The Altruists, which dramatizes the exchange's collapse. Wang, who served as COO from early 2019 and later as co-CEO, claims the production misrepresents the company's internal culture and the personal relationships of its leadership.
According to Wang, the core FTX team consisted of fewer than 200 employees who worked 16 to 18 hours daily. She stated that staff were largely unaware of the romantic relationship between founder Sam Bankman-Fried and Alameda Research head Caroline Ellison until after the bankruptcy filing.
The series, produced by Higher Ground, is scheduled to premiere on November 19, 2026. Wang noted that she was not consulted regarding her portrayal in the show and disputed the narrative that the company was defined by a party culture rather than its focus on effective altruism.
The collapse of FTX revealed a shortfall of $8 to 9 billion in customer funds linked to the misuse of assets by Alameda Research. Wang was subject to a year-long Department of Justice investigation but faced no charges.
Since the collapse, Wang has co-founded a new crypto trading platform called Pacifica in early 2025. The platform reported a trading volume of $10 billion in October 2026.
