Ford has officially discontinued the F-150 Lightning, which was previously the best-selling electric pickup in the United States. The company stopped production of the model in December and has removed it from its website as it shifts focus toward its upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.

The first vehicle built on the new UEV architecture will be the Fathom, a midsize electric pickup. Sales are scheduled to begin in early 2027 with a starting price of $28 350, excluding a $1 595 delivery fee. Production of the new model will take place at the Louisville Assembly plant.

The Fathom will feature integrated Apple Maps and increased interior space compared to a Toyota RAV4. Ford expects the UEV platform to provide significant improvements in efficiency and profitability compared to the previous F-150 Lightning generation.

In addition to the Fathom, Ford is developing a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) pickup. This model will utilize a gas generator to achieve a total driving range exceeding 700 miles. CEO Jim Farley noted that the EREV is intended to address market demand for more versatile electric options.

While the F-150 Lightning is no longer available for purchase, Ford confirmed it will continue to provide software updates, service, and support for existing owners. Further details regarding the specifications of the upcoming Fathom and EREV models are expected to be released soon.
