Ford is introducing a special livery for its Mustang GT3 race cars ahead of the Petit Le Mans event on October 3 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The design honors the 1901 Sweepstakes racer, the vehicle Henry Ford used to defeat Alexander Winton in a 10-mile race in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. This victory helped secure investors for the founding of Ford Motor Company in 1903.
The new livery features a burgundy and gold color scheme on a black background, replacing the standard blue-and-white design. The cars display the original Ford Motor Company logo, the inscription 'Racing Since 1901', and graphics referencing the company's founding year. Additionally, drivers will wear firesuits styled after the attire Henry Ford wore during his 1901 race.
The Mustang GT3s will also feature an illuminated 'Glow Pony' emblem on the rear fender, which now includes a black-and-gold American flag to mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. The No. 64 car will be driven by Dennis Olsen and Ben Barker, while the No. 65 will be piloted by Christopher Mies and Frédéric Vervisch in the GTD Pro class.
Ford has confirmed its commitment to the Mustang GT3 program, announcing that the current driver lineup will remain for the 2027 season. The 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans serves as the season finale for the program, connecting the modern racing efforts directly to the historical 60-mph Sweepstakes vehicle that established the brand's foundation over a century ago.
